We
were all very sorry to learn of the death of George Dyson in February.
George was the Choral Society's pianist for 21 years from 1979 and
a very loyal and committee member. He was made a Life Member of the Society
in 2001 when his failing health forced him to retire. George never missed
a rehearsal or concert and was always available for extra practices. His
contributions on the committee were unique and when George decided to
speak on a subject you could expect the meeting to be extended by about
half an hour. George used to play the piano in dance bands in the 40s
and 50s, and he played the organ at Saint Edmunds Roman Catholic Church
in Abingdon for many years. He also played the organ at Steventon Church
for about 18 years. His pride and joy was an electric organ that he built
himself and he used this when he went around entertaining old folks groups.
George was an one off and had many friends in the Choral Society. He and
his sometimes quirky little ways will be missed by us all.
