Key people

Musical Director

Since its formation in 1959, Steventon Choral Society has had only three Musical Directors. Our present Musical Director, Terry Pearce, has conducted us since 1981 celebrating his 25 years with the choral society at a special concert in June 2006. Terry sometimes accompanies the choir on the guitar or sings bass solos. He is also choirmaster at St Michael & All Angels Church, Steventon.

Pianist

The Choral Society has also been well-served by its pianists.  In January 2006, we welcomed back Robert Thomas following the departure of Debbie Jordan from Steventon with her family for Egypt. Debbie, who originally joined the choir as a singer but whose skills as a pianist and organist were too good to overlook, took over from Robert in January 2002 when he went to start a music degree at Kingston University after accompanying the choir for two years.

Robert is the great-grandson of the late Trixie Lay, who played for us from 1960 to 1979, and took over when ill-health forced the retirement after 21 years of loyal support and dedication from Dr George Dyson.

Michael Evans has joined us as guest pianist for several concerts and as a rehearsal pianist for September to December 2001. We are also grateful for the help and support from Michael and Val Cooper as stand-in pianists for September 2006.
