Click here for a bigger picture of Steventon Choral Society Steventon Choral Society is a mixed voice amateur choir of some 50 singers. Members not only come from Steventon, but from a wide area of south Oxfordshire and north Berkshire - from Radley to East Ilsley and Didcot to Wantage. Their ages range from 16 to over 80.

Many of the members read music but this is not essential. All you need to join the choir is a love of singing and a willingness to attend rehearsals regularly. No auditions are necessary to join the choral society. Members are asked to wear choir dress for concerts.

Steventon Choral Society is run by a committee elected each September at the AGM. The music is chosen by the musical director.

Members play an annual subscription which goes towards the cost of hiring the hall, paying the pianist, buying music, etc. For the 2007/2008 season, the subscription is £35.00 (half year: £17.50; student £17.50). The choral society's patrons help the choir with donations and support at concerts.

Other fund-raising efforts include:

  • Monthly raffle at rehearsals (first Thursday in the month)
  • Sales of SCS tea-towels, pencils, pens, etc
  • Sales of Christmas wrapping paper (a new venture for 2005) supplied by Northbrook Fundraising

Newsletters are issued to all members at least twice a year during the season.
